His early years were influenced by his father, who was an electrical engineer and his grandfather, a general contractor. That influence fostered a curiosity in how things are made. His first job was restoring antique furniture, which evolved into making furniture, still his favorite hobby. The historical nature of objects, buildings and places has always interested him. He enjoys the discovery of their story, particularly how they were constructed. In 1993, after studying civil engineering at Brigham Young University, Steve came to work at Historical Arts and Casting. Over the years he has spent some time working in every facet of the business. Most recently his role at Historical Arts and Casting has been to coordinate with clients on the production of various projects. His work covers all aspects of production from design through installation. At an early age he spent most of his summers helping his father Steven T. Baird, an Architect, with restoration surveys of old cast iron buildings. Some of the projects he helped with were the Grand Old Opera house in Wilmington, Delaware, the Wilkins Building in Baltimore, Maryland, the California State Capitol located in Sacramento, California, and the Old Executive Office Building in Washington DC. Richard has followed in his father’s footsteps by getting a degree in Architecture and worked in his fathers firm for nine years. After his tenure with his father he developed a company with his two brothers called Historical Arts and Casting, Inc.
